Algebra calculators
Solve equations, find slopes, and factor with every step shown.
Algebra is the art of finding unknowns. These calculators solve quadratics, compute slope, and isolate x in linear equations, each showing the substitution and simplification steps a teacher would want to see.
Key formulas
The quadratic formula solves any ax² + bx + c = 0. The part under the root, the discriminant b² − 4ac, tells you the story before you finish: positive means two real roots, zero means one repeated root, negative means two complex roots.
Slope is rise over run: how fast y changes per unit of x. A vertical line has undefined slope (division by zero); a horizontal line has slope 0.
Which tool do I need?
- Equation has x² → quadratic formula calculator.
- Equation is ax + b = cx + d → linear equation solver.
- Two points, need steepness → slope calculator.
- Just type it and see → the universal solver routes you automatically.

Common questions
Factoring is faster when the numbers are friendly, but the quadratic formula always works, including for irrational and complex roots that factoring cannot reach.
The parabola never touches the x-axis, so there are no real solutions. The two solutions are complex conjugates, e.g. 2 ± 3i.
